Drug Store Beauty- Deal or Dud? July

I have a short Drug Store beauty review this month. I really haven't bought too many things lately. I blame the wedding for that.

1. Crest 3D White Whitestips 2 Hour Express
via Google Images
I have always been a fan of Crest Whitestrips. I honestly think I have used every single kit they have over the last 8 years.(I got my braces off in 2003) This particular kit promises to noticeably whiten your teeth in 2 hours.I was actually quite skeptical about this one. Gabe and I both used this product the week of the wedding and I have to say, it does work. I whiten my teeth once or twice a year so my teeth were already pretty white. For me it really just brightened and removed some red wine stains. My dear Husband on the other hand, never whitens his teeth because he can't stick the routine. This was perfect for him. One strip for 2 hours and your done! His teeth really were noticeably whiter afterward. I would recommend this product if you have an event to go to and you don't have time to do a full whitening treatment. The box costs about $50 and comes with 4 strips, which is supposed to be a year supply. (you do one strip every three months according to Crest). You can usually find pretty good coupons for Crest Whitestrip products. I'm talking $7-$10 off a kit! I say that this product is a DEAL!

2. Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30
About the product:
" Formulated with antioxidant Southernwood extract,
SMART ESSENTIALS™ Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30 helps keep what's good in and what's bad out, replenishing and helping to protect your skin wherever the day takes you. In fact, in a clinical study, 100% of women showed an improvement in the look of stressed skin." (Source:Aveeno Website)

This is a great day time moisturizer! I seriously think this does better than a lot of expensive, department store brands. It has a velvety smooth texture and it sinks in pretty quick. I hate having to wait around to do my makeup because my moisturizer is sitting on top of my skin. I have been using this since late April and I think it has been great for my skin. My makeup looks better with this underneath and it keeps me adequately moisturized without being too heavy. This is probably more suitable for normal/dry skin types. It might be a little thick if you are oily. (In which case I recommend these products) I love the pump style bottle and a little goes a long way so it has lasted me awhile. This should run you around $15.00 at your nearest drugstore. Since I feel like this is worth way more than $15, I'm calling this one a DEAL!

Have a good day!!

Where Do You Shop?

Ok, so I have gotten a few emails from bloggers and questions from my friends about where I like to shop. So I decided to make a little shopping guide for my closet must haves:

For T-shirts: I love Forever 21 for my basic T's. They have some of the softest T-shirts ever and they run about $3.50/ea which means you can stock up and then not feel bad when your ready to get rid of it. I usually  replace my white v-necks every season because you don't want your T's to look dingy.

For Jeans: I invest in good jeans because I wear them all the time and I really think you can tell the difference in fit with a good, quality jean. My favorite brands are Seven for All Mankind, J Brand, and Citizens of Humanity. These fit my frame the best. I prefer dark wash jeans and I like to have a couple of pairs of skinny jeans and boot cuts always on hand. I also keep a pair of trouser jeans and a nice wide leg style always in my closet.

For Dress's:Fun going out dresses usually come from boutiques for me. Victoria Secret and Forever 21 are a gold mine for day time cotton dresses. Formal dresses are usually from BCBG. I have never paid full price for a BCBG dress. Dillards always has a pretty good sale on them and I've found most of mine for at least 50% off.  Work appropriate dresses usually come from Ann Taylor or Banana Republic.

For All Of My Work Clothes: Invest in at least one good suit. Go for a timeless style in a neutral color like black or gray. My really nice suit is from Dillard's and I love it. I wear the pants that go with that suit more than any of my other dress pants. My other suits and pants are from The Limited. I usually have to have all of my dress pants tailored and it's well worth it. I told you in the above that I get dresses from Ann Taylor or Banana Republic. All of these stores I've mentioned in this section are also great for finding work appropriate tops. I did invest in a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress that I love! If you can afford to get a great piece from her I highly recommend it! Go for something you can wear a lot like a solid color wrap dress.

Fun Clothes: Trendy, fun items usually come from H&M, Forever 21, Dillards, and local boutiques. I don't spend a ton of money on shirts. I know that most likely I won't wear it but a few times so why spend a lot of money?

For Handbags: This is another area I think it's appropriate to invest in. Fine leather goods will last you years and can be timeless. I only have three handbags. My Louis Vuitton Speedy 35, my Kate Spade Goldcoast Maryanne in black, and a tan leather tote from a small leather shop in Italy (no designer). I tend to cheap out on clutches and will find great options at Forever 21 and Express. I do have a vintage clutch from my Great Grandmother that is to die for. I only get that out on very special occasions though.

For Shoes: I am a shoe fanatic. Love love love them! I get a lot of my shoes from Dillards. They have a great shoe department and my favorite brand there is Gianni Bini. Michael Kors also makes great shoes for both his MICHAEL Michael Kors and KORS Michael Kors. (Both are different price points but each have great styles and quality) I believe every girl needs at least on pair of Tory Burch Reva's. Ralph Lauren makes great pumps for work that have wonderful quality and are quite comfortable. My best advice for shoes if you are on a budget is to hit up DSW. I always find great deals there. I do have a killer pair of Christian Louboutins that were a gift to me from my lovely husband when I graduated college. They are gorgeous but OMG so uncomfortable. But, I think every woman needs a pair of totally outrageous, not at all practical, makes you feel like a supermodel shoes.

For Swimsuits: Victoria Secret all the way! And Target of course! :)

Workout Gear: Target has a great selection of workout clothes and I swear by Old Navy yoga pants. I love Nike Dry Fit tops and running shorts. I have never been able to bring myself to spend a ton of money on work out clothes. The stuff at Lulu Lemon always look so cute, but the prices make me gag. All I can think is that that money could go towards jeans or shoes :)

Jewelry: Most items are from Forever 21 and Charming Charlies. (so inexpensive and fun!) Sometimes I'll hit up  Dillards and Target for some good deals. And of course I love Tiffany and Co. for some special items like my key necklace and my heart bracelet - very Elle Woods. :)

I don't think you have to spend a ton of money to have a great wardrobe. Just know what you personally need to invest in and what you can skimp on. I know that I love to spend money on jeans, but my shirt is most likely under $20. It's what works for me. I look for sales on trendy items and I invest in classic timeless items. But no matter what, just do what makes you comfortable.

So there you have it ladies and gents! So now you tell me, where do you like to shop? Do you believe in investing in clothing items?

Have a great weekend!!

Look out for the next edition of Drugstore Beauty on Monday!

Currently...

Eating: A chocolate chip bagel with raspberry cream cheese from Panera. Calories be damned, this is one of my favorite breakfasts.

Reading:  The Late, Lamented Molly Marx by Sally Koslow

A great summer read. It's the perfect mix of chick-lit and mystery.

Wishing: It wasn't so dang hot outside! Triple digit temps plus stifling humidity is a miserable combination.

Patiently Waiting For: Our wedding pictures! I still haven't received them from our photographer yet and I'm about to go crazy! This newlywed needs her pictures asap!

Freaking Out About: A procedure I am having on my eye next week. I'm usually not scared of needles, but if one is getting near my eye all bets are off. Hopefully my crazy eye issues will be solved though.

Annoyed By: Tyra Banks on Good Morning America. This woman wrote a book. Oh Lord help us all!

I've been obsessed with this hot pink color all Summer. It's perfect.

Obsessed With: Benefit High Beam

How did I ever live without this product?!? It is seriously the best highlighting product I have ever used. I'm hooked!

Lusting After:
Definitely not in my budget, but still fun to look at :)

Looking Forward To:  Our post wedding party my aunts are throwing us this weekend! It gives us a chance to celebrate with all of those who couldn't make it down to Alabama for our wedding.

What are some of your currents? Have a great Thursday ya'll!

5 Things I've Learned in My First Week of Marriage...

1. Changing my last name is a hassle. Social Security office, DMV, bank stuff, credit card, email, passport, voter registration, and the ever important Facebook.

2. When Facebook didn't accept my name change multiple times, the only other option was to send them a photo copy of our marriage license. Yes, seriously. A week later and I finally got it changed.

3. Just when I think I have all of the thank you notes written, another gift comes! Not complaining, but still!

4. Saying "my husband" still feels foreign after a week.

5. I miss my wedding terribly! I feel like I'm going through a mourning period now that it's over. I never thought I would feel that way. Don't get me wrong, I love being a newlywed. I'm just missing the thing that has consumed 90% of my thoughts for the past year.

Happy one week anniversary to my Hubby!!

Have a good night ya'll!

I'm a Mrs.!!!

Well hello! It's been awhile, right? But, you all know I had a good excuse for my absence! I'm officially a married woman! Short little summary: The wedding was perfect and I couldn't be happier with how it all turned out. We're home now and I'm anxiously awaiting our pictures from our photographer! But I have a little sneak peek for you from my cousins camera!

Waiting to walk down the boardwalk!
You know there will be a full re-cap soon!

Have a good day!
